Remove, Restore, Protect: The 3-Step Routine for Spot-Free Cars

Most spot problems come from doing things in the wrong order, or skipping a step. Here’s the whole system.

Key takeaways

  • Remove spots from glass with Spotless X2.
  • Restore paint with Dissolve X2.
  • Protect everything with SFX1.
  • Order matters: clean before you protect.

Why one product can’t do it all

Glass, paint and protection need different chemistry. A remover strong enough for baked-on glass spots is the wrong tool for clear coat, and a protectant can’t remove what’s already there. Splitting the job into three steps lets each product do what it’s best at.

1. Remove (glass)

Take hard water spots off the windshield, windows, mirrors and chrome with Spotless X2.

2. Restore (paint)

Take water spots, red dirt, rust stains, tar, sap and bugs off paint, wheels and trim with Dissolve X2.

Safety first

Spotless X2 and Dissolve X2 are strong acid cleaners: their Safety Data Sheets list them as causing severe skin burns and eye damage. Wear gloves and eye protection and read the labels before you start. Every sheet is on our SDS page.

3. Protect (everything)

Lock it in with SFX1: wet-look gloss and water that beads off, for up to 12 months.

What you’ll need

  • Spotless X2
  • Dissolve X2
  • SFX1
  • Microfiber pads and towels
  • Car wash soap and mitt
  • Nitrile gloves and eye protection
  1. Clean first. For spots or stains, use Spotless X2 or Dissolve X2 before you protect.
  2. Mist SFX1 onto one panel at a time, on a wet or dry surface.
  3. Wipe and buff with a clean microfiber towel for instant gloss.

Why the order matters

Protection seals in whatever is under it. Clean first, then protect, and the protection works the way it should.

How long the whole routine takes

For most cars, a first full pass, with spot removal on all glass and paint plus protection, takes an afternoon. After that, upkeep is quick: a wash, a dry, spot-treat anything new, and a fresh coat of SFX1 when beading fades.

Common mistakes to avoid

Protecting first. It seals in spots.

Using the glass product on paint. Use Dissolve X2 on paint.

Skipping the dry. New spots form immediately.

Doing it all in the sun. Shade makes every step easier.
